Need to Know: Your Michigan Leaders

In our 2018 midterm elections over 47% of eligible voters turned out to cast their votes. According to NPR, that was the highest turnout for a midterm election since 1966. Although the American population goes through ebbs and flows re: voting, these past midterms are a reminder of what it takes for an active liberal democratic society to function. The American people have the ability to shift the political makeup of our nation, and Interfaith Action hopes to encourage faith communities of Southwest Michigan to use their voices to advocate for peace & justice.

One of the best ways to utilize our voice outside of an election is through contacting our state representatives and state senators for Van Buren, Cass, and Berrien counties in Michigan, Michigan Governor and Lt. Governor, as well as our representative for the House and current U.S. Senators. Each of our working groups sees how policy impacts issues of interest such as clean water and the preservation of the Great Lakes, immigration, gun control and anti-discrimination laws, and environmental issues. We have the opportunity to influence policy through writing and calling our leaders and letting them know what is necessary in our districts.

Below is a list of the Michigan leaders and their contact information. . If there is a leader you do not know, get to know their platform and areas of interest and expertise.
